Get ready to celebrate Theodor Geisel's 114th birthday next week!

Welcome to #breakthrulinkup 21!

It's almost here!
You can feel the excitement in the air!
We walk around the house speaking in nonsense word and rhyme...

It's almost Dr. Seuss' birthday!

Wish Theodor Geisel a Happy Birthday on March 2!As far back as I can remember, I've had a love for language...

Whether written or spoken, there was nothing that meant more to me than English put to good use. A unique turn of the phrase, clever puns or rhymes, interesting analogies - they all bring me delight!

Which was one reason I always loved reading Dr. Seuss books...and then sharing them with my kiddos 😉

So I thought I'd give you a "heads up" that his birthday is coming up on March 2, which is just around the corner and gives you plenty of time to prepare.

Theodor Seuss Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, would be celebrating his 114 birthday this year, and I think he'd be thrilled to know that his amusing and clever style of writing is still helping children learn to read. But his writing doesn't only appeal to the little ones!

One of my husband's favorite evening activities to do with the kids was to pull out his childhood collection of Dr. Seuss books and read them aloud. He would always have all of us belly-laughing at the funny voices he'd use on the creatively contrived words penned in those stories. From toddler to teen, the language engages us all...

And totally appropriately, Dr. Seuss' birthday has also been chosen as the date to celebrate Read Across America Day. Check out their website for a TON of fun ways to celebrate reading with young people.

Get your teens in on the act, too!

But don't fool yourself that a good Dr. Seuss book is only for the young.

  • Have a bunch of your teen's friends over and stage a book reading - I dare you to find a teen that can't crack at least a smile while reading one of his books out loud! Try out this list of Amazon favorites for starters.
  • Take a look at Oh, The Places You'll Go and encourage them to share their own dreams for the future (this book makes a great graduation gift, too!).
  • This pin has some fun Dr. Seuss-inspired activities for older kids and tweens...
  • And finally, pull out a handful of books and encourage your kiddos to find some truth shared by the old Doctor:

Be who your are... Dr. Seuss
An important lesson for young and old...

What's your favorite Dr. Seuss book? Hope you find a way to celebrate and enjoy the day - let us know what you'll be doing in the comments!
